Fire at Willowholme Industrial Estate, Carlisle

Eight fire engines are attending a blaze at a Carlisle industrial estate.

Firefighters were called to the area of Willowholme Industrial Estate at around 2pm, police and the Environment Agency also attended.

It is believed that the fire is at the Breedon plant.

Nathan Crawford, who works on the site, is forced to watch on as he waits for access to the site.

“It is a fire in a yard,” he said. “I got here at about 2pm and I just saw masses of smoke.”

Firefighters are driving between the scene and a water pump to fill up their engines.

A spokesman for Carlisle East Fire Station said: “At approximately 1.45pm, appliances from Carlisle East and Carlisle West, were mobilised to reports of a scrap yard on fire, at Willowholme Industrial Estate, Carlisle.

“The fire involves a large amount of scrap and waste. There are currently seven fire engines and a water bowser in attendance, battling the blaze using main jets and CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System).
