Residents in Workington are being warned about an upcoming £130,000 resurfacing project.

Cumbria County Council’s Highways team will be carrying out resurfacing works on the A597, from the Asda roundabout to the Salterbeck Drive junction, throughout May.

The works will start on May 4 for a period of up to three weeks.

A formal road closure will be in place throughout the project. Access for resident and business vehicles within the area around the work site will be restricted between the hours of 8am and 5pm.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Highways teams ask that vehicles are removed from the work area between the hours of 8am and 4pm to enable the works to be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

If there are any problems or enquiries, contact the Cumbria Highways Hotline 0300 303 2992 and specify you are calling with regard to the A597 Asda roundabout to Salterbeck Drive resurfacing works.

Keith Little, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “These essential improvement works will improve the condition of the road surface at this busy roundabout, making it safer for all road users.

“Investment in maintaining a reliable and safe network is a key priority of the council’s highways department, and I thank local residents and drivers in advance for their patience and co-operation.

“We understand that the works may cause some temporary disruption, and I would ask that you liaise with site staff if you have concerns or access issues.”
