Priti Patel visits the Calvert Trust in Bassenthwaite

The Home Secretary was welcomed to Cumbria by an MP and the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Priti Patel was greeted by Workington MP Mark Jenkinson and Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall, to the Calvert Trust in Bassenthwaite.

The Calvert Trust enables disabled adults and children, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside.

The Home Secretary visited the area to show her support for Peter McCall ahead of the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May.

Mark Jenkinson MP said: “I have visited the Calvert Trust on a number of occasions and I know lockdown has been hard for them. However, due to the generosity of our Cumbrian community, they have managed to survive the pandemic and are set to open again next month.

“I know that there will be a number of organisations, families and individuals that will be delighted that this facility will be reopening and I will continue to offer my support to this excellent charity going forward.”

Standing in the election are:

Barbara Cannon – Labour and Co-operative Party

Loraine Birchall – Liberal Democrats

Peter McCall – Conservative and Unionist Party
