Carlisle College has been shortlisted for a national award.
The college, based on Victoria Place, is a national finalist in the ‘Promoting Apprenticeships Campaign of the Year’ category at the FE Week and AELP Apprenticeship Awards 2021.
Shortlisting was announced at a virtual event earlier this month, which was hosted by impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner. In total 350 entries were submitted to the awards across the categories.
Last summer, in light of the pandemic, the college embarked on its 100 in 100 campaign, aimed at promoting apprenticeships. The drive was designed to minimise the impact of COVID-19 on students by helping to support and develop apprenticeship placements, securing 100 Apprenticeship Opportunities in 100 Days, between July 1 and October 9.
More than 112 employers provided their support, with 177 apprenticeships secured, surpassing the target over 100 days. Each supporter helped to provide career opportunities for local people in the wake of COVID-19, whilst contributing to Carlisle College’s objective to create a sustainable, high-quality workforce for the region.
The winners of the FE Week and AELP Apprenticeship Awards 2021 will be announced at a National Awards Gala Dinner on July 8 at the ICC in Birmingham.
Martin Norris, business development manager, at Carlisle College said: “100 in 100 has been used as a vehicle to generate training and employment opportunities for the people of north Cumbria as well as the wider region.
“The project has been able to help local businesses identify, plan for and fulfil future skills needs, accelerating COVID-19 recovery through skills acquisition and talent development, and we are thrilled that this campaign has been recognised nationally.”
Andy Dodds, assistant principal at Carlisle College added: “It’s timely that we are celebrating the award nomination for 100 in 100 as Carlisle College’s latest initiative, Project: Next Gen, with its aim of inspiring the next generation of apprentices, is building momentum.
“We would like to extend our thanks to all those employers and businesses who supported 100 in 100 and continue to support Carlisle College.”
This year’s project is again being delivered in collaboration with Carlisle City Council and other regional project partners, Project: Next Gen is designed to address the aspiration gap through a range of inspirationally led content with a different theme each month.
Project: Next Gen
Project: Next Gen has already received a great response from local employers and organisations. This support, whether providing workshops, sharing top tips or offering an apprenticeship opportunity will help to tackle the aspiration gap head-on.
