Honister Slate Mine

Movie-lovers will be able to enjoy the big screen experience in stunning surroundings next week.

Honister Slate Mine is hosting the Outdoor Picture Palace for five nights from Wednesday.

Films Top Gun, 1917, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Greatest Showman and Free Solo will be screened on consecutive evenings.

The Outdoor Picture Palace was set up by Alex Chesters, originally from Cumbria but now living in Lancaster.

Alex has spent over a year planning and liaising with venues and has been supported by the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme.

Film-goers will also be able to eat at the event as Earthworm Kitchen will be attending to sell vegan and vegetarian fare.

Freshly made popcorn and drinks from the region’s breweries and distilleries, including Hawkshead Brewery and Zingi Bear, will also be on offer.

Alex said: “The aim is to deliver five days of amazing films, local food and local drinks. Our events are all about outdoor cinema in great locations.”

The Honister Slate Mine series of films is the Outdoor Picture Palace’s first event this year.

Measures are in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Audience members are requested to wear a face covering while moving throughout the venue, including admission, use of bar and food and toilet facilities.

People are welcome to remove face coverings while seated.

It has reduced audience capacity to allow for socially distanced seating, event staff will wear face coverings and hand sanitiser will be available throughout the event site.

Alex added: “We will be delivering events throughout the Lake District and Lancashire and at beautiful and exclusive venues at creating truly memorable experiences for all those that attend our film screenings.”
