Danny Grainger has been appointed assistant head coach at Scottish League One side Falkirk.
Grainger, who left his post as boss of Workington AFC earlier this month, will travel north of the border with another Cumbrian, Tony Caig, who is Falkirk’s new goalkeeping coach.
The ex-Carlisle United duo complete the coaching staff of new head coach Paul Sheerin, with whom Grainger played at St Johnstone.
Grainger, of Lazonby, is a well known face in Scottish football and also counts Hearts and Dundee United among his former clubs.
He later captained Carlisle United before calling time on his playing career and joining Workington, where he had spent the past two seasons as first team manager.
Speaking about his new role, the 34-year-old told the Falkirk club website: “I’m looking forward to, hopefully, pushing the club forward. As soon as I spoke to Paul I knew it was the right move for me and I can’t wait for the challenges ahead and to work alongside him.”
Caig’s playing career as a goalkeeper spanned 27 years and saw him represent a number of teams including Carlisle, Blackpool, Charlton Athletic, Hibernian and Vancouver Whitecaps.
Caig said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s something fresh, something new. Pre-season’s not far away, so we’ll be getting to work with the players, the new head coach and hopefully we can get off to a good start and have a good season.”
