A new Sunday league football side aims to help people return to the game without pressure.
Puncheon Inn FC was set up by Jayden Blair, Reece Clark and Ryan Wood following a conversation about the lack of sports opportunities for people who just wanted to enjoy football at a competitive level without the stress and pressure it could bring.
Jayden said: “So many young lads are turned away from Sunday League Clubs due to lack of ability or fitness levels so we wanted to start a club where the training sessions are run on the basis of enjoyment rather than being too strict while developing people of all ages and abilities.
“We are all big believers that sport has a big impact on people’s mental health and we know how important it is to get all these young lads and all people for that matter the space to get out of the house and off screens and kick a ball about for an hour with mates instead.
“We play under the banner of The Puncheon Inn which is a pub in Whitehaven that all the lads go to, the pub has meant a lot to us all so it’s great to give back to a real community pub while giving people an opportunity to get the boots back on which is a win-win for all.”
Coaches running training sessions are Jayden Leatham and Jayden Blair.
Training is every Wednesday at St Benedict’s School in Whitehaven from 7pm to 8pm and are open to people of all ages and abilities.
People are asked to call 07876 170122 or 07745 463054 before attending.
