Saturday could be a defining day in the battle for the Cumbria Cricket League’s Premier Division title.
Four of the closely-grouped top five teams provide two matches which are sure to be fiercely contested.
Current leaders Carlisle entertain fifth-placed Cockermouth while third-in-the-table Cleator host Furness who are six points ahead of them.
Cockermouth dropped 18 points behind Carlisle, but their home game last week against Lindal was called off because of COVID-19 in the opposition camp.
Carlisle were due to host Cockermouth last Friday in the inaugural floodlit T20 game but that was washed out so they did not get an early sight of each other’s qualities
Both supply several players for Cumbria who face Shropshire on Sunday in the NCA Trophy at Netherfield.
Cleator have won some low-scoring games at home this season, while Furness have been cracking-up some decent scores so their clash at the JD Campbell ground will be very interesting.
Keswick currently occupy fourth place, and like Cockermouth their game last week was called off as opponents Whitehaven had COVID in the club.
Tomorrow Keswick travel south to take on the bottom side Dalton.
Millom, enjoying their best season in the top flight for a while, host Workington who gained a morale-boosting win at Wigton last week.
Whitehaven and Lindal will both look to get back into action after their postponements a week ago. Lindal go to Wigton and Whitehaven entertain Haverigg.
There’s a big game tonight in the League’s T20 competition with Cockermouth hosting Workington. The match between Carlisle and Cleator has been postponed.
