Cameron Stewart, 21, of Penrith, received a letter from the Queen’s Lady in Waiting thanking him for the campaign he set up to collect and distribute cards to NHS workers

A man who collected and distributed cards to thank NHS staff has been congratulated by the Queen.

Cameron Stewart, 21, of Penrith, received a letter from the Queen’s Lady in Waiting thanking him for the campaign he set up to collect and distribute cards to NHS workers to thank them for their work during the pandemic.

Mr Stewart had the help and support from a number of schools and businesses in the county and in April he handed over the cards to former chief nurse, Anna Stabler, at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

He said: “I received a letter from the Queen after I wrote to Her Majesty to share information about the NHS Cards Campaign.

“It is an honour and I am happy to share this with everyone who supported the campaign to collect an incredible 3,050 cards in total which went to 14 hospitals.

“I want to thank everyone personally as it was fantastic to give the staff a thank you from the communities they work tirelessly in service for. It’s especially nice to receive the letter in the week of the NHS’s 73rd birthday.

“I also received a card for the sympathy sent, on the sad news of the Duke of Edinburgh’s death. He visited Cumbria many times and this is a kind token to receive.”
