A Lake District restaurant has been named as the best in the world by review site TripAdvisor.
The Old Stamp House in Ambleside received the accolade in the website’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards, beating establishments in France, Japan, Mexico and Brazil.
It was named in the Best of the Best fine dining restaurants category and the award is decided by an algorithm which analyses the millions of reviews and opinions collected by the website in 12 months.
The Michelin starred Old Stamp House is tucked away in the former office of William Wordsworth, who was the Westmorland Distributor of Stamps for a time. It was opened in 2014.
It is run by brothers Ryan and Craig Blackburn.

Head chef Ryan was a MasterChef contestant in 2017.
The team also picked up the UK’s number one spot in the new Date Night category, as well as coming ninth overall in the world’s list of romantic restaurants, and not to be outdone sister restaurant Kysty, also in Ambleside, came seventh in the UK in the same category.
Ryan said: ”It’s incredible that we’ve been recognised with the Travellers’ Choice Awards from TripAdvisor for Best in the World, Best in Europe and Best in the UK, based on guest reviews, as well as taking the top spot in the UK for the Old Stamp House and seventh in the UK for Kysty in the new Date Night category.
“As a team we constantly listen to what our guests have to say and the feedback they give us helps us deliver the high levels of service, hospitality and cuisine that we have become known for.
“Both teams at the Old Stamp House and Kysty are totally over the moon and want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has reviewed us and helped us evolve in our developing journey.’’
Number three is the two-Michelin starred L’Enclume in Cartmel, run by Simon Rogan.
