Already entering the second half of the season, the Cumbria section of the National Conference League’s regional competition is well behind schedule.
Only eight games have been played so far; Askam have already dropped out and the two teams at the top have only played once each.
The other six regional Leagues are much further on with their fixtures, and the Conference is looking for teams to have played at least 70 per cent of their games by the end of the season.
At that point the 16 leading teams will contest play-offs, ending in a Grand Final to declare the 2021 champions.
The plan is to make up the 16 with the top two in each of the seven leagues (subject to having played at least 70 per cent of their games) plus the third-placed teams in Leagues B and F.
Only one game was played in the Cumbria section on Saturday as COVID isolations continued to affect fixtures and unless things improve, and mid-week games can be fitted in there is a strong possibility that clubs will not meet the 70 per cent requirements.
Three games are scheduled for this Saturday:
- Hensingham v Barrow Island
- Kells v Millom
- Wath Brow v Egremont
