Cumbria slipped to a disappointing defeat in their opening NCA Championship game at Carlisle against Northumberland.
It meant the Cumbrians started the campaign with just four bowling points while Northumberland went home with 22.
Yet in the morning Cumbria had been hopeful of pulling off a win in a game which had ebbed and flowed throughout.
Nico Watt (3-35) and Matthew Siddall (3-57) grabbed the last two Northumberland wickets when play resumed on the final day, leaving Cumbria to score 264 to win.
Although Ben Davidson (8) went early, Cumbria seemed to be building solidly looking to keep wickets intact for a final push but it didn’t materialise.
Matthew Sempill (49), Nathan Waterston (42) and Sam Dutton (25) at the top of the order did their bit but from 130-3 they collapsed to 165 all out.
Once again Oliver McGee was their tormentor, taking 4-72 for match figures of 10-121 while Alisdair Appleby had 4-33.
