As part of the club’s centenary celebrations the Workington Reds Foundation launched their first Grassroots Festival of football at Borough Park.
Sixteen teams of Under-8s took part in the opening competition, with representatives from the north and west of the county involved.
The event, supported by a good following of family and friends, saw four groups of round robin matches in the morning ahead of an afternoons knock-out competition when the teams had been split into two sections.
There were some exciting games , too, with several needing penalties to decide the eventual winners.
The Plate final saw Bransty successful against a Gosforth side which has only recently been formed.
In a very tight all-Carlisle final Pirelli just got the better of Morton Manor to win the Cup.
Special guest on the day was the Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford (who hails from Greysouthen) and is currently on loan at Accrington Stanley.
He did a spot of refereeing and also presented the trophies.
The next Festival in two week’s time is for the Under-10s age group.
