Coastguard teams were called to rescue a casualty with a lower leg injury on the beach.

Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Teams were called to Fleswick Bay.

The team medic made an assessment and splinted the casualty’s leg injury before they were packaged and stretchered to a more suitable location on the beach to allow for the coastguard helicopter to land and extract the casualty.

A helicopter landing site was established at St Bees Lighthouse, but not required as the casualty was transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by helicopter.

A statement from Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Our thanks to the first informant for giving clear details on the casualty and location and also the local landowners for accommodating access across their land.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
