Lake District visitors urged to explore by bus

Visitors to the Lake District are urged to leave their cars at home and explore the area with a new bus ticket.

A new discounted hop on hop off Stagecoach bus ticket has been introduced to the county in a bid to ease pressure on rural roads.

The ticket allows five people to travel around the Ullswater and Penrith zone all day for £17 during the summer holidays using the 508 service.

The route links popular tourist hotspots such as Aira Force waterfall and Ullswater ‘Steamers’.

The discount has been made possible from support from Cumbria’s Tactical Visitor Management Group, a collective, county-wide response to help manage the flow of visitors around the county and to support residents.

Jim Walker, chairman of Cumbria and Eden tourism network, said: “By jumping on a bus instead of driving, passengers will be doing their bit to ease traffic on popular tourist routes, thereby supporting local residents and helping protect our world-class landscape.”

Rob Jones, managing director for Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: “Our 508 service is perfect for exploring the best the Lakes have to offer.”

Details of the 508 timetable are available at: www.stagecoachbus.com/timetables
