Nathan Waterston’s season could be over and he admits to being gutted at missing out on Cumbria’s NCCA Trophy final.
The talented Furness opener has been managing a shoulder problem all summer but has been told he needs an operation which has put his season on hold.
He said: “I felt it after batting for three hours in a pre-season game at Garstang when I scored a century. It’s something that has flared up from time to time ever since.
“I went for a scan and was told there was a cartilage problem there and I should have an operation.
“I thought I might get away with it until the season finished but it was really sore after Saturday.
“I did my right shoulder playing football and that’s been operated on but it’s the left one this time which is causing me problems.
“I’m really disappointed because of the big game coming up with the county and also the fact that Furness are top of the League and looking to win the title with seven games left.”
Waterston is one of the leading batsmen in the Cumbria League this season, on runs scored and average, and has figured prominently for the county on their charge to the knockout final.
A talented footballer with Barrow and Workington, his progress in that sporting arena was curtailed when he dislocated his right shoulder playing for Reds at Tadcaster when the 2019/20 season ended early.
