Jermaine Beckford came out of retirement last night to take a training session at Kendal Town.
Beckford, 37, was forced to retire in 2019 because of injury after serving nine different League clubs and clocking up over 250 appearances, scoring 135 goals.
One of those goals was scored for Carlisle United in 2006 on a four-game loan spell from Leeds United.
Beckford is a friend and former Jamaica team-mate of Kendal manager Chris Humphrey who organised for him to take the training session.
Last year Simon Grayson, another friend of Humphrey, took a training session and was also in charge of the side in a League game at Clitheroe when the Kendal manager was absent through COVID.
Kendal chairman Jay Rossi said: “It was a great session and Jermain was out there with them for two-and-a-half hours and we had a number of people down to watch.
“The only downside was that six of our players never got there. A bad accident on the M6 meant lengthy delays and when it got too late Chris just told them to turn round and go home.”
Kendal start their new season tomorrow at home to Glossop North End and will have no less than 12 new faces in their squad of 21 players.
They travel to Bootle on Tuesday and then next Saturday have a quick reunion with Glossop in the FA Cup but this time away.
