Carl Forber was the toast of Workington Town after a stand out achievement in the 38-22 win at West Wales Raiders.
The struggling hosts had given Town a harder game than they probably imagined and it was only in the last quarter that they managed to pull clear.
So Forber’s contribution was vital. His hat-trick of tries were so valuable and in kicking five goals it took him to 1,000 career goals, a superb achievement.
Town have had some outstanding goal-kickers over the years, particularly Iain McCorquodale and Lynn Hopkins, but Forber can quite rightly join that elite group.
West Wales, who had gained their only point of the season at Doncaster two weeks ago, were stubborn opponents who wouldn’t go away until the losing stages.
They had led 6-4 early in the game and in the second-half pulled level at 22-22 before Town powered away to win comfortably in the end.
The win keeps Town virtually neck and neck with Barrow as the two look certain to finish first and second in League One.
As well as Forber’s hat-trick Town scored tries through Jamie Doran, Brad Holroyd, Calvin Wellington and Lee Postlethwaite.
