Cumbria are in a strong position going into the final day of their NCCA Championship game with Buckinghamshire at Furness.

They lead the visitors by 304 runs with four second innings wickets in hand.

Gary Pratt’s side had bowled-out their opponents for 149 after earlier posting 297 themselves.

Bucks, resuming on 5-1, and after Connor Haddow was run out six runs later they needed a partnership. It came from Stephen Croft (57) and Alex Woodland (29) who took them to 85.

James McGown had Croft caught by Matthew Sempill and ten runs later it was Sempill who removed Woodland, caught by Sam Dutton.

From 95-4 the visitors slumped to 149 all out inside 16 overs and Cockermouth’s Sempill ended with 5-32.

There were wickets too for the Championship debutants Wyll Stanway (2-27) and James McGown (1-26).

It left Cumbria in a strong position, going out to bat again with a lead of 148.

Teenager Evan Williams (25),Ben Davidson (12)and Stanway (5) all perished before Cumbria got past 50 before a stand of 70 righted the ship.

Sempill (39), having a good match, went first and was followed by Dutton (22) and Paul Hindmarch (1) but skipper Gary Pratt (46no) was still there at the close with Cumbria on 156-6.

But with early rain forecast in Barrow, Pratt might have to consider a declaration leaving time to push for the win.
