Whitehaven held on for a nail-biting 18-16 win at Hunslet as the home side missed a last gasp penalty attempt to level.
It was another gritty, committed performance by the Cumbrians who had opened-up an 18-0 lead by the hour mark and then conceded the next 16 points before the final hooter.
Ciaran Walker, second top points scorer in the Championship, added another 10 to his tally with a try, two conversions and a penalty.
It was Walker who had opened the scoring in the 10th minute, showing great awareness and agility to get on the end of a kick and touchdown.
Although he missed the conversion attempt he added a penalty on 33 minutes and that was enough to take Whitehaven into the changing rooms with a 6-0 lead.
Three minutes into the second-half Jack Kellett went in and Walker added the conversion.
When Brad Brennan charged over after 60 minutes and Walker added the extras it looked as though the Cumbrians were almost home and dry.
But they were made to sweat in the closing quarter as Hunslet reduced the gap with two tries by Harrison Gilmore (63, 67) both converted by ex-Haven player Dan Abram.
A thrilling finale was set up when Charlie Graham went over on 74 minutes but the conversion failed.
It stayed 18-16 until the last minute when Lee Gaskell had a chance to earn Hunslet a point but he missed with the final penalty of the game.
