Kendal Town manager Chris Humphrey is sweating on a suspension for goalkeeper Morgan Bacon who was sent off yesterday against Northwich.
Bacon could miss next Saturday’s FA Cup-tie with Warrington Town depending on when the ban comes into effect.
Humphrey said: “I thought it was just a yellow card really. Morgan came out of his area to tackle their forward and brought him down. The referee showed red because he said Morgan was the last man.
“OK that’s fair enough, but two minutes later their keeper does exactly the same and the referee doesn’t even show him a card. All you ask for is consistency from officials.
“I think he might have realised he had fouled up because afterwards he told us he was going to get his paperwork sent in right away and that it would only be a one-match ban, to take effect on Monday. We will have to see whether that is the case.”
Kendal don’t have a second goalkeeper after their number two broke his leg but will now try and bring in a young loanee from Burnley to deputise whenever Bacon has to miss-out.
It was 0-0 when Bacon was sent-off but by half-time they were 3-0 down, yet with ten men shared the second-half 1-1.
Full-back Tom Fagan went in goal and certainly had no chance with the fourth Northwich goal which Bacon would have struggled to save.
“I think Morgan would have saved the other three but that’s not a criticism of Tom. He put his hand up and was prepared to go in goal when nobody else was.
“The fact that Tom went in goal was irrelevant because in the first-half we just weren’t good enough. Yet the lads really responded from our half-time talk and played really well, ten against eleven.
“That was the positive I take from that and if they can consistently produce that kind of performance we will be fine,” said Humphrey.
Kendal continue their League programme tomorrow at home to Colne before Saturday’s FA Cup-tie with Warrington.
