Furness will be presented with the Cumbria League’s Premier Division Championship trophy tomorrow.

The south Cumbrians clinched the title with a big win at Wigton last Saturday as their rivals Cockermouth were going down badly at home to Workington.

Furness have not quite led the table all season but have consistently been in the shake-up and have finished strongly.

Although the title is in the bag with two games still to play, Saturday’s opponents Whitehaven still have much to fight for.

They hold a slender point lead over Lindal at the bottomof the table, and face two testing trips to the south of the county.

After the prospect of taking on the newly crowned champions Whitehaven will visit Haverigg next Saturday.

Lindal, by contrast, have two home games against Millom and Wigton, two sides safely anchored in mid-table.

There’s also a race to see who will finish as runners-up. Keswick’s challenge has faded since they went top for a week last month and it’s between Cockermouth and Carlisle.

Carlisle have the toughest finale as they visit both Keswick and Cockermouth. Tomorrow Cockermouth entertain Wigton.
