Cockermouth are still looking to open their account on their return to out-of-county rugby after 20 years.
But coach Chris Wright is confident the team will be fine in North Two West when they learn how to manage games better at the higher level.
Cockermouth, who started with a 16-7 defeat at Keswick followed-up with a narrow home reversal, 19-17 to Rochdale, denied by a late converted try.
Wright said: “We have had a really tough start against two of the pre-season favourites to do well. Although losing both games we have been pleased with the way we started both those games.
“We just need to build on our ability to manage games better and make the right decisions to close wins out.
“Player availability has been an issue since the start of the season which has had an effect on our second team, who have lost both games quite heavily but the effort and willingness to learn from these lads is refreshing.
“Unfortunately our injury list is that of A&E levels this week but still look forward to our visit to Leigh. We have three props, one second row and two back rowers with serious long-term injuries and three backs unable to travel.
“One thing to be sure of is the lads who do travel will be bursting a gut to get that first win on the board.”
Leigh have started with two wins so far – 48-3 at home to Bolton and 37-31 at Orrell – so will be a tough nut to crack on their own ground.
Despite their injury issues Cockermouth will be putting out a second team to host Windermere in Cumbria 2 Shield League.
