Wath Brow are through to the semi-final of the National Conference play-offs after an 18-8 home win over West Bowling.

It was a hard-fought victory against a tough, physical Bradford side who had led 8-6 at the break.

The Hornets couldn’t have asked for a better start with Peter Caddy crossing for the opening try after only two minutes and Sam Curwen adding the conversion.

Bradford minds and bodies might have been still on the bus but they settled and were level on 15 minutes with a try from Nat Light which was converted by Harry Williams.

Defences were on top for the remainder of the half but West Bowling did sneak ahead before the break with a Williams penalty.

Just as they had at the start of the game, Hornets opened the second-half powerfully and within a minute had regained the lead.

This time it was Jamie Devine who crashed through for the try which was converted by Curwen.

At 12-8 the game could have gone either way and there was some strong tackling from both sides to prevent further scores.

But the try to clinch the tie came on the hour as Cole Walker-Taylor finished off and Curwen put over the conversion.

In the semi-final next Saturday the Hornets will again have home advantage, this time against Pilkington Recs who were 11-0 winners at home to Lock Lane.
