Minutes into the second half Northern produced a devastating spell of rugby that battered Aspatria into submission and earned a 29-12 win to preserve the visitors perfect start to the season.
The win means Northern stay clear at the top of Durham/Northumberland One while Aspatria must continuie the search for some glue to bind together all the individual talents they possess.
Aspatria remained combative throughout the game but were only rarely enjoying, what was a decent share of possession in dangerous areas of the park.
The end result was not in doubt after Northern launched a 15 minute blitz following the half time interval during which they crossed the Aspatria line to score three of their four tries.
If the second half disappointed home supporters the first provided glimpses of what hopefully is still to come from the men in Black and Red as the season unfolds.
Aspatria had ample possession to work with but a few self-inflicted errors helped Northern defend home advances. With 15 minutes gone Aspatria took a pragmatic approach and used a Jack Clegg penalty to establish a 3-0 lead.
Similarly, Northern were not making much headway with the ball and also adopted a hard-headed stance on 22 minutes, taking a penalty to draw level.
At this stage of the game Aspatria and Northern appeared well matched.
On 25 minutes a second Clegg penalty was used to ease the home side back into the lead.
The attritional pattern of the game burst into life on 28 minutes. A mazy run from Aspatria’s fullback injected some real quality into the game.
Joe Beaty fielded a ball deep in the home 22 and set off on a weaving run past some despairing tackles. Beaty took the ball a full 60 meters to setup a situation ending in a penalty for Clegg to extend the lead.
Northern’s first try came with six minutes of the half remaining. A maul developed inside the home 22 and Northern executed the drive perfectly. Aspatria might have cynically brought it down but instead tried defending a slow march to the line and conceded the try.
Northern were now ahead but the lead did not last. Aspatria finished strongly and with the final play of the half moved dangerously close to the Northern try line but with time running out had to settle for a 4th Clegg penalty to close the half with their noses in front at 12-10.
At the interval the game looked evenly poised. No one watching would have anticipated the maelstrom that Northern were about to unleash.
The visitor’s attacked immediately from the restart and with only four minutes elapsed grabbed back an advantage on the scoreboard. The move started with a penalty run down the left flank and ended with a slick backs movement on the right of the goal posts.
During the next few minutes they looked more than capable of coming back into contention but during, what looked like, a promising raid the bubble burst.  The attack broke down outside the Northern 22 when the home back line move was intercepted, allowing a clean 65 metre run to the try line.
At 12-24 there was now clear water between the teams and buoyed by this Northern turned the screw with some impressive ball retention. Aspatria could not absorb the pressure and Northern posted the killer score to increase the lead.
With the end result decided and 20-plus minutes still to play Aspatria heads might have gone down but they played out the final quarter with plenty of passion and determination.
During this period Northern continued to enjoy the better of field position but their purple patch was over and Aspatria were able to contain further attacks and mount some of their own that asked questions of the Northern defence.
A home try would have been a deserved consolation but on this day it was not to be.
