Cleator Moor Celtic proved too strong for Whitehaven Miners in the West Cumbria Youth League Cup competition.

Their tie, which had been rearranged, was in doubt after torrential rain earlier in the day, but the pitch was finally passed fit and held up well during the game.

But it was a wet surface and Celtic adapted better to the conditions, as they established a 4-0 lead by half-time.

Miners, however, stuck to their task in spirited fashion and created a couple of chances on the break but were unable to take them.

Celtic continued to boss the game on the slippery surface and they went on to score four more goals to move through to the next round.

Miners, who kept going bravely to the end, did not help their cause by conceding two own goals.

The Celtic goals were scored by Ben McCarron (2), Ellis McGonagle, Sam Dixon, Marcus Atkinson and Ethan Smith.
