A man has admitted harassing a woman by threatening violence towards her on more than one occasion.
Derek Crammond, 30, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today.
Crammond admitted one offence of harassment, putting a person in fear of violence. The wording of the charge he admitted reveals that on at least two occasions, between August 1, 2020, and April 24 this year, he threatened violence towards the woman.
The court heard Crammond had been in custody for almost six months — the maximum sentence for the crime being six months — and Recorder Eric Lamb was asked by his the defendant’s barrister to proceed immediately to sentence.
But Recorder Lamb concluded he needed more information before the punishment was handed down, saying: “The court needs to consider the future.” Prosecutor Kim Whittlestone had said of the complainant in the case: “She is fearful there will be future contact from him to her.”
The judge adjourned the case for the probation service to prepare a pre-sentence report on Crammond.
He is due to be sentenced on October 21 and in the meantime was granted conditional bail. The conditions include him living at Sycamore Court in Workington; not contacting the woman either directly or indirectly; and not to attend a specified address.
