Six cup ties in the Workington Sunday League produced 39 goals and the one that went to penalties produced 13 successful spot-kicks before it was decided.

Maryport Athletic and Seaton Rangers were involved in a 2-2 draw which needed penalties to sort out the league cup clash and in the end, it was the Seaton spot-takers who won the day 7-6.

In normal time Mark Barlow and Steffan Miller had scored for the Athletic with Josh Smith and Leon Dima netting for the Rangers.

The day’s highest scorers were Deer Orchard who put ten past The Junction without reply. On target were Callum West (2), Ryan Carruthers (2), Luke Graham, Paul Williamson, Kyran Bertram, Rob Cox, Sam Wright and Louis Pickering.

Two hat-trick heroes helped their sides into the next round – Northside’s Tommy Whitehead and Glasson Gartdeners’ John Patterson.

Northside were 4-1 winners at Salterbeck with Anthony Zajac scoring the other.

Glasson beat Flimby Social 5-1 with an own goal and a strike from Ryan Porter adding to Patterson’s hat-trick. Adam Kirkbride scored for Flimby.

There was a good contest at Dearham where the home side beat Highfield 5-3 with goals from Craig Rule (2), Danny Dryden (2) and Steven Stoddart. Dan Graham, Luke Harrison and Tom Stephenson were on target for the Cockermouth side.

In the other tie at Curwen Park visitors Sun Inn Athletic beat Senhouse 4-2 with goals from Mark Campbell (2), Daniel Dobson and Daniel Stockdale.

This Sunday’s games are: Premier Division – Dearham v Glasson Gardeners; Salterbeck v Sun Inn. Division One – Sun Inn Athletic v Highfield.

Sunday County Cup (round one): Deer Orchard v Northside (ref Tommy Linford); Flimby Social v Maryport Athletic (Stephen Donald); Mirehouse v The Junction (ko 10.30am, Geoff Ellison); Thornhill v Seaton Rangers (ko 10.30am, Neil McCrickard); Senhouse v St. Bees (Karl Sanderson); Lowca Pirates v Moresby Rangers (ko 10.30am, Wayne Davison).
