Residents in Copeland are being invited to leave a personal message in remembrance of a baby lost.

Copeland Council is marking Baby Loss Awareness Week with a living tree in its Chapel of Remembrance.

Residents are invited to place a tag on the tree with a personal message, during the national awareness week which is held from October 9 to 15.

After the event, the tree will be planted in a dedicated garden that will be developed in the grounds of Distington Hall Crematorium.

The chapel also has a memorial book for anyone who has been touched by the loss of a baby to write in their tributes.

Susan Pringle, bereavement services team manager at Copeland Borough Council, said: “We hope that we can provide some comfort to residents who have been affected by baby loss by marking the important occasion with the creation of our living tree.

“The event gives residents the chance to remember little loved ones they have lost. And they can continue to do so in years to come, as the tree flourishes in our grounds.”

The Chapel of Remembrance at Distington Hall Crematorium is open from 9am until 4pm every day.

Residents can find more information and a wealth of resources in relation to Baby Loss Awareness Week at www.babyloss-awareness.org.
