Firefighters were called to rescue four cows stuck below ground in slurry pit at a north Cumbrian farm.
The animals had fallen about two metres through the pit’s entrance at the farm near Biglands, outside Wigton.
Crews from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Wigton attended the incident at about 5.25am yesterday and used farm machinery to remove the slurry from the pit.
All 4 cows were successfully brought to safety by specially trained animal rescue technicians, using animal rescue strops and a farm tele-handler.
