Workington skipper Matthew Lowden picked up a treble at the club’s annual presentation night, reflecting on the 2021 season.
The Cumbria county player topped the club’s bowling averages, he took most wickets and had the best bowling spell in the season.
Lowden finished with a bowling average of 12,00 after taking 24 Cumbria League wickets, seven more in the Higson Cup (which Workington won) and eight in the T20’s competition when Workington were eventually beaten in the final.
His bowling performance was instrumental in Workington beating Furness in the Higson Cup final. In his seven overs he took 4-5 with four maidens.
The Moffat family has been linked to the Workington club for many years and through three generations. The latest two, brothers Kristian and Callum were trophy recipients for the 2021 season.
Kristian was the Players’ player of the year while Callum topped the batting averages.
Workington Town rugby league legend Ike Southward was a keen supporter of the cricket club and in his memory a trophy is awarded to the best young cricketer of the year.
Son Mark was there as usual to hand over the trophy, this time to Matt Reid who topped the third team bowling averages.
The Under-21s player of the year was Ben Scott; Josh Burns won the third team batting averages; Robson Scott topped the second team bowling averages with Adam Chambers winning the 2nds batting averages.
Scorer Tim Kempster had announced his retirement after 26 years and the club’s AGM in February will consider a proposal to make him a Life Member.
