Weather plays havoc with football

The weather played havoc with local football over the weekend with virtually a wash-out.

The Cumberland County League was unable to stage a single fixture after torrential rain in the 48 hours before Saturday left pitches under water or just unplayable.

Windscale even missed-out on their Wearside League trip to Wolviston as the pitch in the north-east was also unplayable following the fearsome weather conditions.

The Workington and District Sunday League did manage to fit in one game, on the artificial surface at Netherhall.

The Division One game finished 8-0 to Flimby Social Club against The Junction with goals from Max Litt (4), Owen Lucas (2), Jacob Baker and Lazo Rayner.

Hopefully things will have improved for next weekend when the fixtures are:

President Cup (kick off 1-30pm) – Deer Orchard v JJ’s (ref Steve Dobinson); Dearham v Blue Bell (Colin Varty); Northside v Seaton Rangers (Mark Kilgour) and Sun Inn v Senhouse (ref Colin Heron, linesmen Tommy Linford and Adam Sowden.

League Division One (2pm kick off) – Highfield v Sun Athletic (Stephen Donald) and The Junction v Maryport Athletic (Geoff Ellison).
