An NHS trust is highlighting the kindness it has been shown by a local charity.

Tomorrow is Kind Cumbria Day, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is highlighting the kindness and support local charity Leave A Light On (LALO) has shown the trust.

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has internationally recruited a number of nurses over the last year. Relocating is difficult at the best of times, but especially for these nurses who have left their families, homes and everything they know.

If moving somewhere completely different isn’t difficult enough, there can also be expenses along the way, such as exams and living arrangements. Leave A Light On charity has played a pivotal role in ensuring these nurses have some of the home essentials to help them settle in.

Beth Woodhall, Onboarding and Pastoral Support Assistant, for NCIC said: “When the nurses come over, they have lots going on from learning constantly about different ways of working to finding somewhere to live. It can be quite difficult financially to get themselves off the ground before their first payday.

“LALO were extremely helpful and able to support some of the relocating nurses by donating essentials they needed for their new homes. They didn’t just give them a great start, but also showed how welcoming and kind our community in Cumbria is.”

Anyone who is struggling or in need of support should contact LALO.

People are encouraged to support the charity in any way they can. You can find out more LALO on their website and get in touch to see how you can help.

Beth added: “I just want to add thanks to staff across the trust for helping our nurses settle in. Staff have helped with everything from house viewings, putting blinds up, installing washing machines and much more. What a great team we have at NCIC.”
