Free government support for exporters in Barrow and Furness will be outlined to businesses by their local MP.
By organising a series of events through 2021, Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell is supporting businesses in his constituency to start or grow international sales and showcase the Best of British goods. The event will be co-chaired by Copeland MP, Trudy Harrison.
UK Exports worth £569.8bn were sold overseas in the 12 months to July 2021, with 149,500 UK businesses exporting goods in 2020.
The latest research shows exports support 6.5m jobs across the UK, 74% of which are outside London. The research estimates jobs directly and indirectly supported by exports pay around 7% more than the national median, with Office for National Statistics estimating that goods exporting businesses are also 21% more productive.
Mr Fell is working with the Department for International Trade (DIT), as part of the Parliamentary Export Programme, to help local businesses access the free support they need to boost their exporting potential and understand the effects of trade agreements and how to benefit from them.
This session will provide Furness based businesses an opportunity to speak to and hear speakers from the Department for International Trade, and an experienced local exporter who will detail the support available to expand their business overseas.
Simon Fell MP is a founding member of the Parliamentary Export Programme where selected cross-party MPs organise and chair virtual meetings with experts from business and government to support local businesses in their exporting journey.
The event is scheduled for November 23 at 1pm and is hosted remotely by Microsoft Teams.
