An innovative new system to keep residents and businesses updated on the £76 million Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme has been launched this week.
The Environment Agency, together with contractors VolkerStevin, have worked together to develop a tailored app that will provide updates and the latest news on the flood scheme direct to mobile phone and tablet users.
The VolkerStevin Engage App is a new way to ensure users receive timely and accurate messages following a successful trial earlier in the year.
Stewart Mounsey, Flood Risk Manager for Cumbria at the Environment Agency said: “We’re now at a stage in the flood scheme where a lot of activity will be taking place in central locations and we understand the importance of keeping local communities informed with accurate, up-to-date information on works that affect the town in which they live.
“The new app will make it even easier for local people to find out about the latest developments and ask us any questions they may have.
“Along with the app, we will still be using more traditional ways such as letter drops and public meetings to keep people informed about this vital scheme.”
The app is available to download from both Apple and Google Play. Download from the Flood Hub https://thefloodhub.co.uk/kendal/#section-13
The launch of the app coincides with the start of the Environment Agency’s Flood Action Campaign – launching with Flood Action Week, which will be running from November 22 to November 28.
With winter approaching it’s vital everyone knows the threat to them and how to keep loved ones, property and possession safe. Go to the Gov.uk website or search ‘know my flood risk’ to sign up for Environment Agency flood warnings, receive information on the risk in your area and what to do in a flood.
