Rishith Upamal

Keswick have announced their new professional for the 2022 season – a team-mate of departing pro Geeth Kumara.

Rishith Upamal joins the Fitz Park club on the recommendation of Kumara who has ended a 10-year association with Keswick to join Colne.

The 25-year-old all-rounder – right hand bat and off-break bowler – has had two successful seasons in the UK and has established himself as a reliable performer in his homeland, Sri Lanka.

He is currently playing for the Lankan club and on Tuesday was 53 not out after a partnership of 88 with Kumara in a match against the SL Navy.

He came to the UK for the first time in 2019 and played for Dundee High School Former Pupils CC in the Strathmore and Perthshire  Championship. He scored 796 in 20 innings at 53.07 with a best of 100.

He was not used a lot as a bowler but did claim nine wickets at 14.33 with a best return of 3-34.

Last summer he was in the very competitive Bradford League where he played for Ossett and hit 802 runs, average 44.56.

He finished fourth in the batting averages and helped Ossett win the First Division title and promotion to the Premier Division.

Rishith is also a qualified ECB level 2 coach and Keswick are looking forward to adding him to the team of coaches at the club next summer.
