After giving one of their best performances of the season last week, Workington Reds boss Chris Willcock still expects his side to raise the bar.
A 3-0 win at Colne matched the same score-line at home to City of Liverpool in the second game of the season.
“I think those two games saw us at our best. Clean sheets, good in possession and committed when we didn’t have the ball.
“But that doesn’t say we can’t improve and I will be looking us to raise the bar as we go through the season,” said Willcock.
Reds are back at Borough Park on Saturday when Prescot Cables are the visitors – and Willcock will be on at his players to guard against any complacency.
“Prescot have been up and down but seem to have been able to fire themselves up for matches against some of the top teams.
“We have done our homework on them and I will be looking for us to go into the game with the right attitude,” said Willcock.
But he will have to go into the game without Brad Carroll, as he recovers from an eye injury picked-up at Colne and Ruben Jerome who is starting a three-match suspension.
In addition Donae Lawrence, who picked up a back injury when he played for Emley in the FA Vase on Saturday, might not be able to return to the Reds squad.
“Donae was unlucky not to be in our squad for Saturday so was getting valuable game time. Unfortunately he had to come off after 76 minutes and was unable to train on Tuesday.
“We will assess him before Saturday and see what the situation is.
“Nico (Evengelinos) did half a session on Tuesday and was pleased with his progress. We have gone down a different route with his injury and fingers crossed he could be ready for the game at City of Liverpool on December 11.
“We are still waiting an update from Scott Allison about his shoulder. He is expecting to hear from the specialist this week and how he can move forward.
“Until we know definitely what’s happening with Scott we won’t be doing any business. It’s got to be the right sort of player for us in any case and I won’t be bringing anyone in just for the sake of it,” said Willcock.
