Carlisle United are through to the last 16 in the EFL Trophy after a penalty shoot-out win over Lincoln City.
The sides had been locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes but in the spot-kick decider United came out on top 4-3.
Both sides missed their first penalties – Jon Mellish hitting the bar and Chris Maguire firing high over the top.
But then it was four perfect finishes for the Blues as Jack Armer, Corey Whelan, Brad Young and Taylor Charters all scored.
Lincoln stayed level with successful efforts from Lewis Fiorini, Ted Bishop and Conor McGrandles until Lewis Montsma failed to take it to sudden death.
It was another morale-boosting win for Carlisle and manager Keith Millen, and despite it being in the much-maligned Papa John’s Trophy a victory can only help build confidence for the bigger challenges ahead.
Both teams had chances to win the game in normal time, but over the 90 minutes a draw was probably the fairest result,
Home keeper Mark Howard had to make two good saves in the first ten minutes to deny Hakeeb Adelakun and Max Sanders.
Mellish had the first chance to test Josh Griffith but his shot was weak from the edge of the area and the Lincoln keeper had no problem in saving.
The Imps were certainly the more likely side early on and Howard was much the busier keeper. Adelakun’s shot lacked enough power to test the home custodian while Dan Nlundulo planted a header wide from a good corner.
There was a promising attack from Carlisle on 29 minutes and Rod McDonald was unlucky to see his effort hit the post.
Lincoln had two more efforts on goal before the finally, and deservedly, got in front just before the interval. Maguire was given the ball on the edge of the area and drove a strong shot beyond Howard.
Only 884 watched the game, 75 of them from Lincoln, and the Carlisle fans thought they were going to roar in the equaliser on 53 minutes but Jordan Gibson somehow missed an open goal.
At the other end Howard did well to tip a shot from Adelakun onto the post.
Carlisle drew level on 69 minutes with a smashing finish from Armer, his first goal for the club after he latched onto a pass from Manny Mampala and drove a strong shot past Griffiths.
In the time left Fiorini was closest to a winner for Lincoln but a good strike flew just past the post.
