
The Sun Inn Sharks took another huge step towards the Maryport Pool League title with a commanding 6-1 win at Maryport Rugby League Club A.
The result extends the Sharks’ lead at the top of the table to nine points as they moved onto 57 points, putting them firmly in control of the championship race with seven league fixtures remaining.
Second-placed Bowling Club suffered a costly setback as they were edged out 4-3 by Elbra A, while Elbra Club B kept the pressure on the leading pack with a hard-fought 4-3 win away at Butchers B.
The biggest victory of the week came from the Sun Inn Ballers, who were in sensational form as they whitewashed Elbra Club C 7-0, strengthening their grip on a top-eight place.
Butchers A matched that scoreline with a ruthless 7-0 win over Glasson Rangers RL club, while Swan Inn enjoyed an impressive 6-1 success at Grasslot Working Mens Club.
Sun Dearham also claimed a narrow 4-3 victory over Maryport Social Club.
There was another close encounter which saw Maryport RL Club B edge past Sun Inn Cannons 4-3.
The standout individual performance came from Luke McKnight for the Maryport rugby league boys, who produced a superb 8-ball clearance, running the table in style to help his side seal a valuable victory.
With seven matches still to play, every point remains crucial.
After 30 league games, the competition will split into a Top 8 and Bottom 8, with each section competing in separate knockout competitions.
That means there’s still plenty to play for across the division, with the battle for the top eight becoming increasingly intense as the season heads towards its conclusion.
Meanwhile, the Sun Inn Sharks know that if they can maintain their outstanding form, the league title is now firmly within their grasp.
