
Whitehaven will have a new face in their line-up when they welcome an old face to the Ortus Rec on Sunday.
They have signed 1-9year0old prop forward Woody Walker from Betfred Super League side Castleford Tigers on loan.
He will make his debut when Haven entertain Swinton Lions, now coached by their former coach Anthony Murray.
Walker joins initially on a week’s loan having already played first team rugby last season making six appearances on loan for Newcastle Thunder starting at either prop or second rower.
He was in the Thunder side which lost 28-10 to Whitehaven in August last season.
Whitehaven head coach James Newton said: “We needed a player to get 18 players together as we have the bare bones and have a bruised and battered squad at the moment.
“I’d like to thank Woody and Castleford, and he trained with us on Thursday and hopefully will be raring to go come Sunday.”
The Thursday session was a workout with Peter Smith’s Kells side, who lead Division One of the National League.
Sunday’s team will be selected from: Bickerdike, Brennan, Brown, Burns, Callander, Eccleston, Holgate, Holliday, Kellett, McQuistan, Newbegin, B. Pearce, J. Pearce, Shackley, Smith, Todd, C. Walker, W. Walker, Weatherill, Williamson.
