Kendal made an inauspicious start against Glossop came through strongly for an excellent 24-5 win.
Having lost heavily to North One West leaders Stockport last week, Kendal were looking to bounce back quickly.
It didn’t seem particularly likely early on as a surfeit of penalties, against them meant they had to manage with very little possession.
They finally escaped with a deep kick from Glen Weightman and eventually they were able to take the lead.
Weightman broke through the Glossop defence and had Steven Nelson with him. He was tackled but managed to smuggle the ball to the supporting Danny Barker who plunged over, Weightman added the conversion.
Glossop had a good spell, maintaining pressure in the Kendal 22 and eventually gained their rewards with an unconverted try wide out on the right.
The final score of the half arrived in time added on and it came from the boot of Weightman from a penalty.
Kendal made some positional changes for the second half when Chris Park joined the fray and scrum-half Jordan Johnson went off.
Park played full-back with Dan Lowther moving to the right wing, and Lewis Kincart taking over at scrum half.
It meant Weightman got quicker service and Glossop’s ploy of deliberately slowing down the play was virtually eliminated.
Six minutes into the second-half Kendal scored their second try after a forward drive had been initially stopped just short.
An advantage was called and a long pass out to Robbie Collinson allowed him to stride over from close-in. Weightman converted.
It was good stuff now from Kendal as Greg Wrathall and Chris Evans revelling in the early ball from Kincart, and they responded with tackle-bursting breaks.
With more options to his game Weightman continually tested Glossop with well-placed long kicks which helped the home side keep up the intensity.
It has to be said the Glossop defence stood up to the pressure very well but they could not put-off the inevitable.
On 70 minutes the Kendal pack again did the hard yards and when a gap appeared Kincart shot through it for a try his enthusiastic and savvy performance deserved.
Weightman added the extras and in the remaining minutes Kendal fought hard for the fourth try and bonus point but were denied.
