A Lake District venue which opened six months ago has been named among the best gastropubs in the UK.

Nicola and Kevin Tickle opened Heft in High Newton earlier this year.

It has now been included in the shortlist for the prestigious Estrella Damm Top 50 UK Gastropubs awards 2022.

Now just like the other 49 establishments up and down the country who received letters announcing their inclusion in the list, the team from Heft will have to wait until January 24 to discover their exact position in the Top 50 list and to also discover which of the nominees will win through to claim one of several special awards, which are also being presented at the event being held in Manchester in January, including Newcomer of the Year and front of House Team of the Year.

The awards, now in their 13th year, are specifically designed to showcase the very best pubs and pub food in Great Britain.

Each year the awards are voted for by hundreds of top foodies and hospitality experts. These include food writers, catering development managers and executive chefs, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators – all of which means the list really is decided by the industry.

Chef patron Kevin said: ‘’Being shortlisted in the Top 50 Gastropubs awards list is a great tribute to the entire team at Heft.

“It recognises all the hard work they have put in, and it’s testament to what we have achieved as a team in such a relatively short space of time.

“We believe we’ve created something really special at Heft, from the outset Nicola and I had a clear vision for what we wanted to achieve when we took the pub on, and this nomination recognises our ambition.’’
