A man remains in a critical condition in hospital after an attack on New Year’s Day in Workington.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Officers were called at about 8.50am on January 1 following concern for the welfare of two men at a property in William Street.

Two men were discovered with injuries.

Police said the 38-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after suffering head injuries.

The other man, aged 34, was discharged after being treated at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

Two men have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and remanded in custody.

But investigations continue and officers are keen to hear from anyone who can help the enquiry or anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in this area.

Anyone with information can contact report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit, quoting incident 138 of January 1 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
