Workington Town are closing in on an overseas player who could be landed in time for the start of the Championship.
Coach Chris Thorman says negotiations are ongoing but they are well down the road towards a conclusion.
“As with all our new signings we like to do checks on a player’s background. It isn’t just about how good he is at rugby league.
“Once we are happy on that, we are always hopeful that we would be able to complete the deal.
“We are also negotiating with a second player who is a bit more local. I’m not saying really local but nearer Workington than overseas,” he said.
Thorman is looking forward to the clash with Whitehaven on Sunday (kick-off 2pm) for the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game.
He is going to use as many of his squad as possible as nine of those were unavailable last week.
But although he had no injuries in the 24-12 defeat at Barrow, he will be without Perry Singleton who has been suspended for two matches.
The RL Disciplinary committee dealt with his challenge on Barrow’s Carl Forster as a Grade C strike, hence the two match penalty.
From the same game Town’s Jamie Doran was cautioned for dangerous contact but was not suspended and he will play against Whitehaven.
