Young adults with learning disabilities and autism will be able to take part in a new free series of creative workshops in Carlisle.
The eight-week Picture of Me programme has been organised by Prism Arts.
Young people from across the county will work with specialist artists to uncover their own story in a series of hands-on workshops.
Participants will decide how they want their story told by exploring dance and film or street art. The finished pieces will be shared with the public either in person or virtually later in the year.
The project, funded by Arts Council England will be led by Prism Arts in collaboration with several local artists including dancer Susie Tate, film-maker Nick Greenall, and Landmark Street Artists Ben Heslop and Martin Evans.
It is also working with Dr Tracey Hayes from the University of Cumbria.
Anne Timpson, project manager, said: “We are delighted to have received funding to deliver this pilot project. It will enable us to test new ways of working, reach people who aren’t currently accessing opportunities and develop new relationships with local artists.
“We are really excited to see how participants stories come to life and can’t wait to share them with the public.”
Sessions are free and suitable for young adults with autism and / or learning disabilities aged 16 and above. The workshops will take place at Prism Arts’ Carlisle Studios, in the Central Methodist Hall on Market Street It will run from February to April 2022.
Participants choose from street art on Wednesdays or film and dance on Tuesdays.
There are a mixture of full day and half day sessions. For more information, visit www.prismarts.org.uk
