The best friend of Natalie Kane described her as “the most loving mother” she has “ever met” as she paid tribute to her life.
The 27-year-old mother and her one-year-old son Harry were celebrated at a joint funeral service in St Mary’s Church in Maryport yesterday.
Natalie and Harry were found at an address in Whitehaven on December 30 after concerns were raised about Natalie’s welfare.
Mourners entered the church to Westlife – You Raise Me Up and left to Robbie Williams – Angels.
Sandwiched between the two was Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World.
The flower theme for the service was pink and blue.
“The service was beautiful, lots of people showed up to pay respect to Natalie and Harry,” said Stacey Hackett, one of Natalie’s best friends.
“They had an amazing send-off. She (Natalie) would have been amazed and so thankful to everyone coming together and showing support to her and Harry.”
The events leading to their deaths has yet to be revealed but Cumbria Constabulary say that “there were no suspicious circumstances” and that the coroner has been informed.
“These past few weeks have been so hard to deal with, not only for myself but for Shane (brother) and his family and also Ashton (friend),” said Stacey.
“But we will continue to support each other. Natalie and Harry’s family are devastated by the loss of them both. Myself and Ashton will continue to support the family as much as we can.”
“They mean the world to me”
Stacey has paid tribute to the life of her friend.
“Natalie was one of my best friends, her and Harry did and still mean the world to me,” she said.
“Natalie was a very beautiful woman who loved being out in nature and doing everything possible she could to make Harry smile every day, which made her smile too.
“She was the best and most loving mother I’ve ever met. Harry was her world and more.”
Not everything about this situation has been negative.
“A few things came from this tragedy,” said Stacey.
“Communities came together, not only to raise money for the best send-off for Natalie and Harry but also to do memorials for them both and a fundraising event this weekend.
“Money is also being raised for Shane’s chosen charity – Women Out West – so already a lot of positive things are happening.”
