A riverside path in Kendal will be closed from Friday as work continues on the £76 million scheme to help prevent flooding.
Work continues on construction of flood defences at the parish church and at Waterside Flats in Kendal.
To allow work to be carried out safely, the riverside footpath will be closed from Friday January 14. A diversion will be put in place, and the neighbouring play park will remain open.
This is in addition to the current footpath closure between Dockray Hall and Victoria Bridge, north of the town centre.
A diversion will also be in place for the closure of this section of path.
Stewart Mounsey, flood risk manager for Cumbria, said: “Construction of the Flood Risk Management Scheme for Kendal has made a good start this year, with contractors Volker Stevin continuing work to build flood defence walls along the riverside boundary of Waterside Flats and Holy Trinity Church.
“Work in this location will take around eight months to complete and will involve building two flood defence walls. When finished, the wall will be finished in natural stone. Improvements will also be made to existing footpaths to create better access for pedestrians.”
When complete, the scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to 1,480 homes and 1,100 local businesses across the River Kent catchment.
