
Zach Clough, a Carlisle United departure on transfer deadline day, looks set to sign for Adelaide United in Australia.
Football Insider says that is Clough’s intended destination after media details of his departure merely suggested he was going to start a new chapter in his career Down Under.
Clough, 26, joined the Cumbrians last summer and looked particularly impressive in pre-season games raising hopes of him being a key figure in the United team,’
Carlisle had high hopes for the Manchester-born attacking midfielder but that just hasn’t materialised, although injuries have played a part.
He has made 23 appearances for them in all competitions during the first-half of the season and has bagged two goals.
He had started his career at Bolton – the best period so far – with 68 appearances and 22 goals, in two spells which were book-ended with Notts Forest (27 games, four goals).
After that he had a loan spell with Rochdale and then Wigan Athletic but only managed 22 games and a single goal.
Carlisle manager Keith Millen said he was surprised at Clough’s request to be released
Adelaide came 5th in the Australian top-flight last term and are currently in third position after 10 games this season.
There are a few former Football League playing in the Australian league these days including a former Carlisle United player Tom Aldred.
