Barrow recorded an historic 1-0 win at Northampton to move another step away from the League Two drop zone.
It was a night of firsts as new signing Aaron Amadi-Holloway netted his opening goal for the club, who had never won at Northampton before.
The clean sheet meant as much to manager Mark Cooper as the goal for Barrow had to defend heroically against a side who are in the play-off positions.
Barrow had started positively and on five minutes might have gone ahead. Although 30 yards out the ball had sat nicely for the right man – but on this occasion Ollie Banks fired his shot wide.
Josh Eppiah did well to charge down Paul Farman’s attempted clearance but fortunately for the Bluebirds there was nobody there to take advantage when the ball careered across the area.
Remeao Hutton did well to find room down the right and his cross was decent but Luke James could only find the side-netting with a shot.
The Cobblers best effort followed a good run and cross from Aaron McGowan but Mitch Pinnock’s volley wasn’t of the same quality and flew well wide.
Northampton started to turn the screw and Paul Lewis headed over from a good position before Farman made a good save to deny the unmarked Pinnock.
When Shaun McWilliams teed-up Pinnock on 32 minutes Farman was again in action with a smart stop.
The returning John Rooney had his first strike on goal late in the half but it caused no problems for Roberts and the half ended goal-less.
Six minutes after the re-start Barrow took the lead. Rooney put over a testing corner which wasn’t properly cleared. Rooney then sent Anthony Glennon racing to the by-line and an excellent deep cross was headed home by Amadi-Holloway.
Banks tested Roberts on 60 minutes with a fierce free-kick and the home keeper did really well to deal with an in-swinging corner from Glennon which looked like flying straight in.
The 151 travelling fans acted as an extra man during eight minutes of added time when Barrow were thoroughly tested for defensive resilience.
