Ullswater

A group of paddle boarders – two with mild hypothermia – were rescued from Ullswater.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called by Cumbria police to reports of a group of paddle boarders who had got into trouble at Glencoyne Bay and needed assistance.

The team mobilised their rescue rubber inflatable boat Patrick Scottie and on their arrival found two women in the water, unable to get back on their boards.

They were recovered from the water and taken to Glenridding steamer pier where they were transferred to an ambulance, suffering from the effects of mild hypothermia.

Other members of the paddle boarding group made their way to the shore and were checked over by medics

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team is fundraising at the moment to replace Patrick Scottie as it has been in service for the last 14 years and is deteriorating.

The boat is used both for rescuing people in trouble on the lake and also for transporting team members to incidents on land at the eastern side of the lake.

During the floods in past years the boat has also proved invaluable assisting the local communities around the lake.
